Symposium Report, Outcomes and Next Steps
As a result of the Symposium for Publishers and Librarians, we've published a report and made it available on the OCLC Web site at http://www.oclc.org/publisher-symposium. In addition to the report, we've included outcomes, next steps, and upcoming events that OCLC staff plan to attend in the coming months.

Webinar - May 5, 2009
To continue the discussion, please join your Symposium colleagues for a webinar at 1:00 PM U.S. Eastern Time on Tuesday, May 5, 2009. During the one-hour session we'll continue to explore the similarities and differences in metadata needs and practices for libraries and publishers, and identify immediate opportunities for collaboration and innovation. An agenda and discussion topics will follow.

谢谢远洋师的分享。Philip Madans的一段话比较有趣，“We want to control the metadata—there are lots of third party metadata providers but the publisher's data will be more accurate and reflect current information.”言下之意，出版商对于用户而言不是元数据服务的第三方（只能武断地把第三方联想为图书馆），而且，出版商的元数据会比图书馆更准确。图书馆对于用户，其角色之尴尬无与伦比。况且，以后的元数据也不会是图书馆玩得转了的东西。好在国内的现实是出版商和书商（外包）的CNMARC质量五花八门，图书馆还能短暂地control下。以发展观科学地看，图书馆将与元数据渐行渐远。神啊，保佑图书馆吧。
